Obituary

Jean Elizabeth Greenwood Strunk passed peacefully on August 23, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Joseph James Greenwood and Fronia Elizabeth Greenwood. She graduated from St. Anne's Catholic High School and went on to attend Winston-Salem State University, where she carned her nursing degree in the 1960s.

Her nursing career began locally at Forsyth Hospital and ultimately took her far beyond her hometown.

She torked as a nurse both in the United States and abroad and lived in several states as well as in Germany and other parts of Europe. Travel remained an important part of her life and reflected her independent and adventurous spirit.

Jean was a woman of Catholic faith and a devoted nurse. She enjoyed fashion, travel, dogs, and collecting Barbie dolls. Her lone of fashion extended to her impressive collection of hundreds of treasured dolls, which she enjoyed carefully dressing and displaying. Jean was known for her trademark sleek ponytail-her signature look that reflected her elegance, confidence, and timeless sense of style. Jean loved deeply, and those she held dear remained close to her heart, even when life carried them in different directions.

Jean was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, an organization that reflected her commitment to sisterhood, service, and uplifting others.

Petite in stature and soft-spoken, Jean nevertheless possessed a strength and presence all her own.

She was, quite simply, small but mighty

Jean is survived by her brother and devoted caretaker, Jerry Wesley Greenwood; brother, James Gray Greenwood; sister, Catherine Janie Greenwood Harris (Vander); and a host of cousins, nicces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Greenwood Cardwell (Charles), and brother, John Thomas Greenwood.

May she rest in eternal peace.
