Helen Porter was born January 30, 1936, in Bishopville S.C. to the late Elease and Isaac Wilson. She was the oldest of nine children. Helen departed this life on March 30, 2024. Helen husband Richard Porter and son Thomas Porter preceded her death. Helen attended Dennis High School. She met and married the love of her life in 1957 and they moved to Winston Salem NC. That union lasted for 66 years. Helen was a member of Ambassadors Christ Cathedral for many years and also attended Christ Rescue Temple. To know her was to love her. Helen was a sweet and kind person.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her stepson Richard (Angela) Boykin of Camden S.C., sister (devoted caregiver) Mary Boone of Winston Salem NC, Elaine Wilson of Rockhill S.C., Joyce Clark of Bishopville S.C., Brother Leroy Wilson of Bishopville S.C. sister-in-law Vermell Hart of Winston-Salem, N.C., sister-in-law Brenda Smith of Bishopville, S.C., sister-in-law Diane Thomas of Charleston, S.C., brother-in-law Leland (Flora) Porter of Hackensack, N.J., special nephew Cori Brown, Winston-Salem, N.C., special niece Anita (Troy) Daniels of Clayton, N.C., special niece Janae Gonzales of Rockhill, S.C., 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and of host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
A public viewing will be held Thursday April 4, 2024, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Friday March 5, 2024, at 12pm from Douthit's. The family will receive friends at 11:30 am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Service.
