Obituary

Cynthia Smith Pulliam, affectionately known as “Cynt,” passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the age of 72. Born on March 2, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, Cynthia was educated in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, graduated from North Forsyth High School, and received her professional nursing certification through Baptist Hospital.

Cynthia shared deep bonds with her four siblings, Jennifer Smith, Australia Smith, and triplet sisters Christine Smith Bingham and Catherine Smith. Born last among the triplets, Cynthia held the special place of being the youngest in the family — a treasured role in a life surrounded by sibling love, family stories, and cherished memories.

A devoted caregiver, Cynthia dedicated nearly four decades of service at Baptist Hospital and Moses Cone Hospital, touching countless lives with her compassion, patience, and generous spirit. Her patients, colleagues, and loved ones knew her as someone who served others with both kindness and humor. Whether offering comfort, lending a helping hand, or sharing a laugh, Cynthia had a gift for making people feel cared for. One of her favorite reminders was, “I love you, but God loves you more.”

A saved and baptized Christian whose faith shaped every aspect of her life, Cynthia was an active member of Love and Faith Christian Fellowship, where she served through the Seasoned Saints Choir, Voices of Praise Choir, Ida Mae and the Faithfuls Drama Ministry, and Seasoned Saints Ministries. She loved attending church, singing, and studying God’s Word. Cynthia was a careful listener and lifelong learner, filling pages with beautifully scripted notes from church services, scripture, and lessons that spoke to her heart. Her faith was not only something she believed; it was something she studied, practiced, and carried into the way she loved others.

Outside of work and church, Cynthia enjoyed playing bingo, painting, reading her Bible, and spending time with her beloved dog, Coco. She loved music, laughter, and fellowship with family and friends. Her warm smile, nurturing nature, and protective spirit made others feel welcomed and valued. And when someone needed a gentle correction, she was known to remind them with a smile, “God don’t like ugly.”

Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Gregory Cutter (Julia Kleinendorst) and Horace Cutter (Tia); her brother, Australia Smith (Barbara); her sister, Christine Bingham (Adrian); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and presence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Smith and Dorothy Samuels Smith, and her sister, Jennifer Smith.

Cynthia’s life was a testament to faith in action, selfless service, and unwavering love for others. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her caregiving, her ministry, and her devotion to family. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

As her family prepares to celebrate her life and honor her memory, we ask that you keep them uplifted in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult season of loss.
