Odessa Abernathy Davis was born June 16,1933 to John and Flossie Abernathy Odessa Davis grew up mainly in Winston-Salem, NC. She attended Carver High School in Winston-Salem, NC and graduated from Hillside High School in Durham, NC. She briefly lived in Charlotte, NC and Durham, NC afterwards.
Odessa briefly worked at the Winston Leaf Tobacco and later went on to be a homemaker, caretaker of elderly family members and ran an in-home childcare center. She took pride in dressing up and wearing hats. She enjoyed decorating and planting flowers each Spring.
Odessa was a faithful member of St. Stephens Missionary Baptist church until her health declined and sang with the Spiritual Choir.
She is preceded in death by husband of 57 years Andrew Davis, sisters: Thelma Anthony, Flossie Williams, Gladys Thompson and Almeta Black, son Andrew Davis Jr., stepdaughter Margie Dickerson as well as grandsons: Jermaine Davis and Teddy Davis.
She leaves to cherish her children: Sylvia (Bernard) Williams of Columbia SC, Debra Rucker and, Donna Glenmore, Timothy Davis Sr., Rev. Keith Davis all of the city and Teddy Davis of San Francisco, CA.
She also leaves to cherish 3 sisters-in-law, 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 8 2nd generation great grandchildren and a host of extended family.
A public viewing will be held Friday August 2, 2024, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 3, 2024, at 12pm from St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church and interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at 11:30 am.
