Obituary

Pastor Beverly Hicks Alexander was born on November 6, 1962 in Bennettsville, South Carolina. She was the Youngest of 13 children. In June of 1981, Beverly accepted the call by God to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1984, Beverly recorded her first album along with Melvin Teal and the Evening Airs entitled "He Saw My Needs". In 2008, Reverend Alexander recorded with Dion Owens & Renaissance with songs entitled "It's All in His Hands, "Over and Over He Keeps on Blessing Me" and " I am Still Here". She also recorded songs with the Napper Sisters which included songs entitled "God is Real" and "I am Just A Pilgrim Traveling through This old World"

performed for the masses inside and outside of the church walls. She has performed the National Anthem for state and nationwide events, her favorite being the Infamous House of Blues (In Myrtle Beach, SC).

She was cast in the National Stage Play "Church Mess" in 2009 and as "The Preacher" in the critically acclaimed Christmas Play/Musical, "Black Nativity". She also had the distinguished honor of portraying Mahalia Jackson and Tremaine Hawkins in the Evolution of Gospel Music in August 2013 during the Black Theater Festival. Her lin 2020, Beverly founded her own group called " BEVERLY ALEXANDER & NEW PRAISE".

Beverly's passion was always preaching and singing. She's preached in a plethora of places. She was licensed and ordained as a Baptist Preacher in 2003 by the Rowan Association. In 2014 Beverly took the assignment as Pastor of Open Door Community Church in Happy Hill Garden, and in 2022 Beverly became Founder and Pastor of Harvest of Faith Worship Center. She attended Claflin, College in Orangeburg SC, with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration.

She is preceded in death by her mother Corrie Bell and Julius Hicks; siblings John Hicks, James Hicks, Waddell Hicks, Lonnell Hicks, Julius "June" Hicks, Bobby J. Hicks and Aunt Albertha Easterling (affectionately known as Aunt Bookie).

Lastly, she is survived by her son David Maurice Baxter (Qushanta), grandson, Zion Hasanni Baxter and her siblings, Roosevelt "Big Man" Hicks (Wilma) , John L. Hicks, Corrie Plato, Rosa Brown (Richard), Helen Monroe, Hildreth Jones (Ron), Dianne Bradford and a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren and loving friends.

Beverly's motto: Everything that's happen to me that was good GOD DID IT" A public viewing will be held Friday April 12, 2024, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's, A celebration of life will be held Saturday April 13, 2024, at 12:30pm from New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
