Obituary

Richard Porter, Jr. was born in Bishopville, SC to the late Ellen Moses Porter and Richard Porter on December 23, 1937. He was one of four children. He attended Lee County Schools and was brought up in
a Christian home. He met and married the love of his life Helen Wilson Porter in 1957, and to this union
were two sons. Richard Porter worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a mechanic for more than 30
years. Richard departed this life Monday, January 9, 2023 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Winston
-Salem, NC.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Friday (Ann) Porter, and son, Thomas Porter.He leaves to cherish loving memories, his wife of 65 years Helen Wilson Porter of the home; son Richard (Angela) Boykin of Camden, SC; brothers Leland (Flora) Porter of Hackensack, NJ, James Johnson of Florida; sisters Vermell (Morris) Hart of Kernersville, NC, Lois Smith of Bishopville, SC, Diane Thomas of Bishopville, SC; special sister-in-law and care giver Mary Lou Boone of the home; sister
-in-law Elaine Wilson, Rockhill, SC; brother-in-law Leroy Wilson, Bishopville, SC; special niece Vermell Anita (Troy) Daniels, Clayton, NC; special nephew Cory Brown, Winston-Salem, NC; 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friend. A public viewing will be held Monday January 16, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 17, 2023, at 11:00am from Douthit's. The family will receive friends at 10:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
