Ricky Leander Scales, age 70 also known as "Rick" was born February 17, 1955 in Forsyth County to Willie Scales Downs. He departed this life Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Ricky was a graduate of North Forsyth High School, Class of 1973. He retired from Wells Fargo and worked part time as a security guard at Allied Security until his health declined. Ricky loved being a coach for the Pfafftown Packers football team for a number of years. Ricky was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis Stimpson Scales, son Charles A, Hairston, sister Venita R. Scales, and step-father Claudius Downs. Also his grand parents Marvin L and Eula Shore Scales, Nara Pledger Scales, aunt Yvonne Scales Jordan, and cousin Valneice Miller.

Ricky leaves to cherish loving memories his mother Willie M. Scales Downs, sons Phillip (Brandy), Reginald "Reggie" and Randy Hairston of King, NC. Granddaughter Stary Phyllis, Grandsons Phillip Jr., Sylee, and Storm Scales. Great-grandchildren Andrew Zachary, and Devin Hairston of Rural Hall, NC, Leonard (Kimberly), Caleb, Kaitlin Miller of Gibsonville, NC and David Miller, Jr. Raiford, FL. God sister Vivan (Albert) Williams, a special friend Reneé Fields, a host of in-laws Herbert (Patsy) Stimpson, Joseph Stimpson, and Rev, Allen (Rosemary) Stimpson, Fay Davis, Annie Baylor, Kay Stimpson, Janet Brown, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday October 22, 2025 at 12pm from the Ronnie Douthit Chapel. The family will receive friends at 11am from the chapel. Interment will follow at the Glenn's Chapel A.M.E Zion Church. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
