Robert Toney "Tank" was born on April 7, 1957 in New York, New York to Mattie Bradley. He passed away at his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on October 1, 2020.
Robert was educated through the Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina school system, graduating from Roanoke Rapids High School in 1975. While in high school Robert was considered a "star" football player. After graduating from high school Robert went on to further his education at West Carolina University.
Robert relocated to New York City in the early eighties where he was employed at General Motors in Tarrytown, New York. While residing in New York Robert met his former wife, Deborah Smithson and to this union their daughter Carolyn Denise Toney was born.
After living in New York for several years Robert returned to the home of his youth, North Carolina. In 2004 Robert became a registered member of the Nation of Islam under the leadership of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. He was known as Bro. Robert 3X and was loved and well respected by his brothers and sisters in the F.O.I. and MGT. Bro. Robert 3X remained an active and dedicated member until his transition.
Robert enjoyed fishing, cooking, having fun, and reminiscing about good times with his brothers, Ron and Al. Robert departed this earthly life on October 1, 2020. He was predeceased by his stepfather, William Bradley. Precious and loving memories remain with: his mother, Mattie Bradley, his beautiful daughter, Carolyn Denise Toney, former wife, Deborah Smithson, brothers , Ronald Bradley and Alden Bradley (Angela), his sister Dawn "Lisa" Adams and a host of other family members and friends
A public viewing will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 2pm until 4pm. The Janazah will be held from 4pm until 5pm at Douthit. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
