Mr. Roger Roosevelt Bailey, the last surviving of four sons born to the late Roscoe and Jessie Ruth Bailey, was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the age of 82. He was a native of Forsyth County, where he attended the local public schools, and graduated from Carver High School, later becoming an active member of the class reunion committee, and then Forsyth Technical Community College. Roger began his career at RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and later retired from The Strogh Brewery Company in 1999. He was a member of Hickory Grove A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as Trustee Chairman for several years. An avid car enthusiast, he could often be found attending the local classic car shows or traveling the road to go to one near or far. He loved watching a Nascar race or catching up on the next Western on television. You would often hear of him traveling to visit family and friends or observing his grandchildren's activities. Roger is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Spease Bailey; four daughters, Ingrid Springs of Atlanta, GA, Manita Bailey of Winston Salem, NC, Tanya (Wilton) Donnell of Winston Salem, NC and Traci Hitchcock of Clemmons, NC. Two sons, Eddie McCray of Lynchburg, VA and Tim (Victoria) Bailey of Winston Salem, NC; was a proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren; Brandon, Jaden, Jasmine, Jasmyn, Jeromy, Jonquil, Malcom, Nathan, Savannah, Simone, Taylor, Tony Jr., Travis, Treyson, and Tyler; his legacy continues through his13 great grandchildren, including his namesake Jeremiah Roger Bailey, 1 great-great grandchild and several devoted relatives and friends. A public viewing will be held Thursday March 30, 2023, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Friday March 31, 2023, at 12pm from Douthit's and interment will follow in Gardens of memory. The family will receive friends at 11:30am.
