Roosevelt "Eddie" Edward Haizlip, Jr. 68, was born June 28th, 1954, in Winston-Salem, NC to Anna Horton, and the late Roosevelt Haizlip, Sr. He transitioned peacefully on January 1st, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.
Eddie was a man of great strength and resolve, and he loved his friends and family. He was a son, father, brother, cousin, nephew, grandfather, uncle and friend to all. He loved life, football and spending his time with friends and family. Eddie was a graduate of Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, NC. He was an honorable Veteran of the U.S. Army. Eddie joined Olympic Lodge No. 795, Prince Hall Masons. He graduated from ED Williams Trucking and continued a truck driving career until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Haizlip, Sr., brother, Steven Haizlip, nephew Jermaine Haizlip, and paternal grandmother Annie Haizlip.
Eddie is survived by his mother, Anna Horton, daughters Monika Haizlip, LaTasha Covington, Tonya Haizlip, and Tyra Haizlip, Sisters Carolyn Thomas and spouse Willie Thomas, Belinda Haizlip; Brother Ghali Hasan and spouse Tonya Hasan, Aunts Helen Horton and Janet Timberlake; grandchildren Carmen Covington, LaTrez Haizlip, Lauren Haizlip, Jalen Covington (in rest), Taiyah Miller, Iycis Smith, Naseam Smith, Sabree Smith, and Nyasha Kampila; nieces Pia Haizlip-Hildebrandt and spouse Tyson Hildebrandt, Tia Haizlip-Fuller and spouse DeAntuan Fuller, Carolyn Haizlip, Terrence Claggett, Chishaun Mumford, Tiffany Wilson, Kevin Martin, Soncerae Hasan, special friend Fayelene Fulwood, and a host of cousins and friends.
A special thank you to the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist medical staff in Winston-Salem, NC. A public viewing will be held Thursday January 19, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., at Douthit Funeral Services. Funeral services will be held there Friday, January 20, 2023, at 12:00 pm, the family will receive friends at 11:30am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
