Ms. Sharon Mitchell transitioned from this life on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. A beloved Sister, Auntie, Cousin, Niece, and Friend.
Born on February 21, 1958, to the late Paul and Annie Mitchell in Brunswick, GA. She grew up and was educated in the city of Brunswick having graduated from Brunswick High School before moving to Winston-Salem, NC and furthering her education at Winston-Salem State University with a major in Business Administration. Sharon's journey through life was marked by hard work, integrity, and a very loving and caring spirit. Her love for her family was top notch. She joined forces with the Winston-Salem Police Department as an officer working in various capacities, one being narcotics. There she gave 25 years of service until her retirement. After retirement, she dedicated herself to staying physically fit. She was very health conscious, often reminding family what was good and not good for them. In her spare time, she could be found strolling or jogging through her city and neighborhood. She cherished time spent with family.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. She leaves to cherish her memory two sisters, Sheila Mitchell and Sophia Lumpkins, and one brother Andre James. She is also survived by one niece, Alicia Mitchell: four nephews, Dexter and Dorek Roberson, Verlie Fields III, and Antuane Mitchell; 18 great nieces and nephews; 7 great, great nieces and nephews; an aunt and uncle, James & Iris Mitchell of Rural Hall and Pearl Armstrong of Brunswick, GA.; a host of cousins of which two were devoted, Janet Mitchell McLaurin & daughter (Mariyah McLaurin) and James Oakes. Also surviving, her former husband Grallion Smith aka "Christopher Galloway", her best friend Walter (Jr.) Solomon, and many friends including former coworker police officers.
Although her departure was sudden, the impact and love she had for her family will remain with us forever. A public viewing will be held Monday April 21, 2025, from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 22, 2025, at 11:30 am from Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at 11:00am. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
