Obituary

Rev. Silas (Sie) Coleman Dervin, 71, of Winston-Salem, NC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Coleman Dervin, Sr., Myrtle Dervin, and a brother, Michael H. Dervin. He attended Winston-Salem City Schools, and was employed by the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem for 44 years until retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor.
Silas was a devoted husband who loved his family, church, helping others, and ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people he came in contact with. He was a faithful van driver and Associate Minister at Mount Olive Baptist Church for over 20 years under the leadership of Dr. Charles E. Gray before joining St. Peters World Outreach Center where he served as a minister, adjutant, and head of the Street Witnessing Team under the leadership of Bishop James C. Hash, Sr.
Always sharply dressed; Silas was quick to strike up a conversation with a stranger with an encouraging word or a laugh. He loved to take road trips, tell funny stories, visit family members near and far, watch old Western movies, and lend a helping hand to those who needed it. He was a volunteer with the Red Cross of NC, and was an active member of Forsyth and Davison County Prison Ministry. Lastly; Silas never missed an opportunity to dote on his wife whom he loved and adored.
Silas leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years, Minister Gwendolyn Dervin, his sons: Silas Foster (Sherrie), Tony Hawkins, Wayne Crouch (Tammie), and Charles Crouch, his daughters: Wendy Rousseau-Taylor, Symentra Dervin-McDaniel (Noland), Tamara Foster, Regina Jenkins (James), and Romenna Jones (Dajuan), and 2 sisters: Diane Oakes, and Sandra Dervin. He had a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. A public viewing will be held Sunday, November 22, 2020 from 1pm until 5pm at Douthit's. A private services will be held Monday, November 23, 2020 and interment will follow Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
