Sophia Lorraine Wilson was born on June 15, 1967 to Leroy and Ethel Wilson. On Saturday, June 6, 2020, she was called from labor to reward. Between those dates much was accomplished.
Her religious education was nurtured in her youth at Spencer Memorial Christian Church as well as Messiah Community Christian Church. More recently she attended Union Chapel Baptist Church. Sophia grew up in the North Hills Community and graduated in 1985 from North Forsyth Senior High School. For more than twenty years she was employed by Haywood Pools in Clemmons, NC. A die hard Dallas Cowboys fan, she had many spirited conversations about her commitment to "America's Team". She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, listening to music and line dancing with her favorite group H.Y.P.E.
Forever remembered for her wit and generous heart, she will be sorely missed by all the children in her neighborhood who knew there was always a treat for them at Miss Sophia's house. No family gathering or party will ever be the same without her larger than life personality. Her mantra for life was "Keep it 100" and anyone who knew her also knows that is exactly what she did.
Among countless ancestors, she was also preceded in death by her son Gerald Atwater, Jr. and her father Leroy Wilson.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son Kennard Wilson, Sr.; her mother, Ethel Wilson; grandchildren, Tamiya Hardy, Alajah Hopper, Kennard Wilson, Jr. and Kyrie Wilson; brothers, Warren Richardson, Troy Richardson, Tayron (Glenda) Wilson, Kevin Wilson and Charles Fullard; sisters, Brenda (Jerrold) Rogers, Lacreta (Tim) Douthit; five nephews; three nieces; four great nephews; and four great nieces. She is also survived by her children's father, Gerald Atwater, Sr.; a special aunt and uncle, Hattie L. Lynch and Eddie Richardson Jr., special friend, Michael Keaton; and a host of cousins, dear friends, adopted children, neighbors and church family. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 from 2pm until 5pm at Douthit's. A private funeral service will take place on Friday, June 12, 2020 followed by interment in Piedmont Memorial Gardens.
