Steven O'Neal Jones age 72 AKA Steve, answered his heavenly bell peacefully on January 25, 2025, following a short period of illness at Willow Valley Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by daughters, Stephanie Jones Binns, Angela D. Jones and Shanita Jones Wilson. Four grandchildren, Mickayla Binns, Angelic Edwards, Stevie Edwards and Shanautica Wilson all of the city. One sister Joshline Jones Henry (Andew) also of the city and one brother Kenneth A. Jones, Clemmons NC. Two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was one of six children and was preceded in death by his parents. Father David Jones, Mother Euretha McDougal Jones. Three siblings' brothers Clifton R. Jones, Minister David R. Jones and sister Vanessa Jones Nichols and a loving god sister/cousin, Minister Joan Benjamin Hines. Steve was educated in public school and was a high school graduate of the WS/FCS in North Carolina. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served from August 1974 to August 1977. There he earned the Rifle Marksman's Badge and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal during his time served. Following his Honorable discharge from the Marine Corp he became an employee of the city of Winston-Salem where he worked in the streets division. Steve was also an avid lover of baseball and played the sport well because of his keen eye in marksmanship. Because of his Christian faith he became a member of New Light Missionary Baptist Church here in the city. Memorial service will be held Tuesday February 11, 2025, at 10:00 am from Salisbury National Cemetery. There will no public viewing. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services.
