Obituary

On Friday, September 29, 2023, beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend, Violet Marie
"Turk" Moore, departed from this world at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Her family fellowshipped with her preceding her departure. Known for her kindness, devotion to
family, and giving nature, Violet was a beacon to her loved ones and this community. She was
pintsized and petite, but big in heart and personality. Though she will be missed by many, her love
leaves no room for us to mourn. Born May 8, 1958, in Robeson County NC, she was the second oldest of five children. She was a member of First Waughtown Baptist Church, and over the years, frequently worshipped at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church as well as Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Violet was
educated at Carver High School and Forsyth Technical Community College. Her career passions in
life included working with children and the elderly. Violet worked for several years as an early
childhood educator, activities director, and nurse's assistant. She was an extremely talented woman
who excelled in artistic expression through various forms as a poet, florist, seamstress, interior
decorator, and playwright. Most will remember her as an amazing cook. Violet loved people and
showed you just how much she loved you through a good meal. Any given Sunday dinner at her
house always looked like a holiday feast. Violet had a charitable spirit and volunteered in the
community with most of her work centering on providing food to those with food insecurities,
supporting veterans, and domestic violence awareness. To know her was a blessing and to love her
was inevitable. Violet is preceded in death by her loving mother, Glorious "Marie" Moore of Winston-
Salem, NC; her God-Sister Myrtle Jean Hayes, and dear friends Vickie Stover-Horne and
Gwendolyn Timbers. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: daughters, Tahara Moore of Raleigh,
NC and Jeminelle Moore of Winston-Salem, NC; father, William T. Moore Sr. (Evelyn) of
Winston-Salem, NC; husband, Jerry Edwards of Winston-Salem; siblings: Reverend Jacqueline
Moore-Hairston, William T. Moore Jr., Carla Moore-McSwain (Roderick), and Epherine Z. Moore
all of Winston-Salem, NC; devoted god children Donnielle Walker and Charles (Willette) Copper Jr.
of Winston-Salem, NC; Brothers-in-love, Elder Kacie Moore (Shari) and Reverend William
Hairston Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; furry grand dog, Bella Rose; God-Grandchildren Eric Baker of
San Antonio, Texas, Keyshaun Walker, Deshaun Walker, Javell Walker, and Nadia Walker all of
Winston-Salem, NC; Godmother, Barbara Geraldine Ellerbee of Winston-Salem, NC; lifelong
friends Barabara Frost, Nicey Springs and Anna Reid; special family friends Annabel and Amy
Volz, Deacon Richard Furman, Minister Detroit Yancey; 3 nieces; 4 nephews; 6 great nieces and
