Willie Jose Pitts, affectionately known as "Joe," was born on July 28, 1944, to James and Bertha Pitts. He peacefully went home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2025.

Joe graduated from Paisley High School and began his career at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, where he worked as a Chief Mechanic. After dedicating more than 35 years to the company, he retired and spent his later years pursuing his passions for cutting grass and repairing lawnmowers and cars.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, James Cornell Pitts, Harvey Pitts, Thomas Pitts, and Benjamin Pitts; his nephew, Robert Pitts Jr.; and his beloved grandsons, Rashaad Devaughn Pitts and Jamal Harris.

He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his devoted wife of 31 years, Vernell Thompson Pitts; six children: Faith Pitts, Robin Harris, Jose Pitts, Emily Pitts, Michael Pitts (Adrien), and Michelle Pate (Terrence); and a niece raised as a daughter, Doris Crockett. Joe is also survived by 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, two brothers: Isaac Pitts, Sr., and Robert Pitts Sr.; one sister, Jeanette P. Wells; a sister-in-law, Bernice Pitts; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Douthit Funeral Home.

A Service to honor and celebrate Joe's life will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Douthit Funeral Home.
